Screen Door Installation FAQ

How thick are your doors?

Our screen doors are 1 3/4″ thick.

Is there an inside and outside to these doors?

Yes! The inside of our doors has the screen stop and on the outside you will notice that the ledges are beveled to drain water. It is important to install these doors in the correct direction.

Do you sell hardware?

We do not sell door hardware. We recommend purchasing from Complete Home Hardware: https://www.completehomehardware.com/the-porch-co-screen-door-hardware-package/

Do your doors come with a frame?

We sell the screen door slab only. You are welcome to build a frame if you’d like, or attach directly to your columns. Read through our door installation tips for more details.

Can your doors be installed as sliding doors?

Yes! They can be.  Here are some important details to consider:

  • Sliding doors slide on a track above, not on tracks mounted in the floor.  Floor tracks would quickly accumulate dirt and debris and become clogged.
  • There will be a “guide” mounted on the floor that will keep the bottom of the door from swing out.
  • Know that there must be a gap between the door and the column so the door does not rub on the column as it opens.  This gap is a potential space for bugs to enter the porch.
  • Know that your columns cannot have crown or base that interferers with the sliding of the doors.
  • Know that we have not found the perfect knob for a sliding door.  You can always use a pull on both sides.  But this does not latch the door or provide any locking method.  You can use a cabin hook to secure the door closed from one side.

With that said, if you want to use a sliding door, there are many, many people who make & sell different types of hardware.  Here’s a few for you to check out:
