Our PVC panel inserts can be installed on a deck or open-air porch using the Timbertech Railing System that we sell. The installation is pretty straightforward, using the following composite and PVC components:
But what about Screened Porches? Screened porches are another animal entirely and require some additional thought. Our PVC Panel Inserts can be incorporated into a screened porch in many different ways. We want to present you with two.
Build your own top and bottom wooden site-built components to encase our panels.
This diagram shows how we would recommend assembling a section of railing:
If you are going this route, you would be purchasing the PVC Inserts only from us, and supplying the rest of the lumber yourselves. With this method, you are simply stapling the screen into place and then covering it with this recommended screen stop. Below are some real-life photos of this method of installation:
(You can see off to the right the panels are installed with the standard Timbertech railing system, while on the left / screened sections, they are installed with lumber using the method above. Oh, and did I mention that we also sell matching Screen Doors?)
Pros: Gives you a very built-in, high-end look.
Cons: Using wood rather than composite or PVC means more maintenance down the line. (Although keep in mind–unlike a deck you have the protection of a roof overhang!)
Use the Timbertech deck rails, and install a separate screening system separate from the railing.
(Some examples of these systems are Screen Eze or Screen Tight).
Below are some real-life photos of this method of installation:
Pros: A fully low-maintenance system.
Cons: Some believe this gives a less built-in look, making it look more like the screening was an afterthought.
With either method, you can choose to either screen to the inside or outside of the panel insert. We think screening to the inside gives the best look, but screening to the outside will prevent leaves and other debris from collecting against your panels.
Whatever method you choose, our PVC Panels will set you apart from the rest, and leave you with a railing you will enjoy for many years to come. Have questions? Give us a call or send us an e-mail.
