In a world of seemingly endless choices for outdoor porch products, there are several local and online places for you to buy outdoor railings. And then there is The Porch Store – a company you can trust that focuses on quality, design, craftsmanship, and customer service.
We offer a wonderful selection of railings, sleeves and caps kits, and other elements to accommodate any design preference needed. These railing components are available in black or white and do not need to be painted. However, if you do want a different color, there are solutions!
If you are using one of our TimberTech railing kits, we do not recommend painting them. Painting these kits will void your manufacturer’s warranty. No painting or staining is required with these products. However, if you are using our PVC railing panels in conjunction with wood components, these of course can be painted to match or stained. See our installation instructions with wooden handrails here.
For durability and excellent performance, all of our PVC railing insert panels and sleeve and cap kits can be painted to create whatever custom look you wish for.
Our paint recommendation is Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic – the preferred brand among builders nationwide.
Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic is specifically engineered to provide high hide and good stain resistance. This exterior, self-priming, waterborne gloss acrylic can be applied to clean surfaces, making it ideal for use our panel inserts and hermitage sleeve & cap kits.
It provides excellent color and gloss retention and is great for use on a variety of substrates. Pro Industrial™ Multi-Surface Acrylic is a dryfall-type coating that provides alkyd-like hardness. It is ideal when multiple substrates need to be painted, but only one product purchase is desired.
Available in a wide range of colors, Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic is the outdoor gloss that dries fast and is easy to apply by brush, roll, or spray.
For best results, never apply paint to a soiled railing surface. Be sure that all weather residue is carefully removed to give you a clean canvas on which to apply the acrylic gloss paint.
If soap and water do not give you the clean result you are looking for, use denatured alcohol. NEVER USE SOLVENT-BASED CLEANERS, such as acetone – as it may damage and compromise the railing material.
If you want to keep your railing in timeless white or black, there is no need to paint, as both color choices are readily available. For detailed guidance, be sure to read our guide on How To Paint PVC.
Use Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial Acrylic. If you choose another paint, at least make sure it is a vinyl safe formula.
